Taking a vehicle without authority :
Taking a vehicle without authority means taking a car without the intention of permanently depriving the owner of their property. This is often used for the offence of joy riding when the car is returned without damage. This offence should not be confused with vehicle theft without consent, which is often referred to as TWOC. Testimony :
Testimony is the statement made by a witness in court, usually under oath, that is offered as evidence for the truth of what is has been stated. a written statement made by a witness is called an affidavit. (See Witness.)
Theft :
Theft means the acquisition of property or goods that belong to another person with the intention of not returning it to the legal owner. The act of theft is stealing not robbery. (See Robbery.)
Tort :
Tort is an area of civil law that refers to damages being sought for a wrongful act or omission suffered by the plaintiff. This cannot be part of a legal contract (this comes under contract law), but it must be proven that this act was done intentionally or negligently.
Treasure trove :
Treasure trove refers to the discovery of gold or silver that has no known owner and has been hidden deliberately in the land. The Coroner's Court is responsible for investigating such discoveries as the treasure trove officially belongs to the Crown and the finder must be compensated for its value.
Trial :
A trial or trial hearing is the name given to the proceedings in a court room that resolve a legal matter. A case is put on trial before the public, and usually require a judge and jury to make the final decision. For certain cases the public is not allowed in the court room.
Tribunal :
A tribunal is a legal proceeding that investigates matters of public interest. They are generally begun under the instruction of a government, and they have the same judicial powers as the High Court. A tribunal is carried out by a senior judge and can concern matters as varied as employment, rent, domestic issues (those relating to professional bodies) and administrative (which relates to industrial and welfare matters).
