Habeas Corpus :
Habeas Corpus is an old-fashioned legal term that refers to the legal justification for the imprisonment or detention of an individual in official custody. It is issued by the Divisional Court of the Queen's Bench Division and does not determine guilt or innocence, merely whether the person is legally imprisoned. Failure to meet this requirement leads to the person's release.

Handling stolen goods :
Handling stolen goods means receiving goods whilst knowing or believing them to be stolen - also helping to store, move, dispose of or sell these goods on behalf of another party.

Harassment :
Harassment is the intimidation or abuse of an individual because of their gender, race, sexuality, religion or age. Harassment comes in a variety of different forms and can be verbal and psychological as well as physical.

If you've been the victim of any form of harassment visit the Support For You section for help and advice.

High Court :
The High Court is part of the Supreme Court in England and Wales that deals with matters of civil law including family, property and business disputes. It is based in over 26 towns around England and Wales, and is split into the Queen's Bench Division, the Chancery Division, and the Family Division.

High Court of Justiciary :
The High Court of Justiciary is the highest criminal court in Scotland, and deals with serious crimes not processed by the Sheriff's Courts. The High Court sits in several large towns and cities around Scotland, and has a similar role to the Crown Court in England and Wales.

Find out more about the High Court of Justiciary in the Crime Fighters section.

House of Lords :
As a home to part of the political establishment the House of Lords is also the highest court in the whole of the UK. The Law Lords do not actually deal with specific legal cases unless they relate to changes or development in the actual laws in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
